Hope you are enjoying the wonderful sunshine June is bringing us here in the UK! Over the past few months, we’ve been attending a lovely workshop hosted by Vintage Memories over at Masson Mills!
Each month, Jackie takes you through the process of a sweet hand sewn embroidery project. We started off in April by making a Biscornu Pincushion, followed by reverse appliqué and a small seaside scene in later months! This month we are joining her again to make an embroidered Mandala!

Each month, the hand sewing workshops are advertised via their Facebook page – £20 per person, this includes all the bits and pieces to make the project and the most delicious cream tea or cake served with a hot or cold beverage. You can book on by popping them a message!
A few workshops ago, Myself, Rachel and Lindsay decided to make a day of it and take the guided tour of the mill itself and it did not disappoint! While we chose to take the guided tour – which we highly recommend, you can also take the self guided tour or book a private tour for groups of 10 people or more by appointment only. You can find all the information on those HERE.
Our tour began with an information video and the chance to ‘Clock in’ using the clocking in machine in the visitor centre (Heather personally loved this part!!). Following a short walk, our tour began with a knowledgable gentleman – all dressed for the part, might we add. All while explaining each machine and area of the mill in detail and even getting them going! He took the time to answer all and any questions, sharing this knowledge of the machines and the history of the mill itself.

We don’t want to give too much of the tour away, but we must say – we throughly enjoyed ourselves in the gift shop following. Treating ourselves to multiple bobbins, threads, fabric and yarns all made in the mill itself!

We really do recommend a visit to the mill and attending one of Jackie’s Workshops if you are local to Matlock or even fancy a nice trip out for the day. The Mill isn’t far from Matlock and Matlock Bath which also have many other things to look at and enjoy too!
A quick shameless plug, did you know we are hosting our Travel Sewing Box Workshop here on Saturday July 20th? You can find out all the booking information HERE if you are interested in joining us and making your own version!
One thing you should know about Rachel and I, is we LOVE a day out and most of all supporting other small local businesses! Do you have any recommendations of where/who we should visit next?! Let us know in the comments!
Until our next post!
